Australia has qualified for six FIFA World Cups, with their best performance coming in 2006 when they reached the round of 16 for the first time. In 2023, co-hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup, Australia reached the semi-finals. The Socceroos transitioned from the OFC to the AFC in 2006, elevating their competitive level.
